August Scharlau
August Scharlau, Reuter avenue, died at St. Joseph’s hospital Friday, June 8, from intestinal ailment. At the time of his death Mr. Scharlau was 73 years of age. He was born February 2, 1854, in New York, moving when a youth to Menomonie with his parents. From Menomonie he moved to his farm near Rice Lake, where he resided for many years.
He was married to Pauline Warnst of Menomonie, and to this union eight children were born, four preceding him in death. The survivors are his wife, four sons, Rudy, Paul, Otto and Harry, and one brother, Fred.
Confirmed in the Lutheran faith, Mr. Scharlau was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church of Rice Lake, holding positions as trustee and deacon for many years.
The funeral was held Monday at 1:30 o’clock at the home and 2 o’clock at the church with Rev. G.H. Heldke officiating. Interment was made in Nora cemetery.4
