Happy Birthday

“Happy Birthday” and wishes for many more -- those were the greetings bestowed on Ed Eighmy, when he stepped into the Fall City hall recently where a crowd of 150 had gathered to help him make merry on his 86th natal day.
The party was arranged by his daughters, Mrs. John Hillman and Mrs. Selah Stewart, Menomonie; Mrs. Julius Vasey, Mrs. Clyde Ames and Mrs. Raymond Douglas, Fall City; and Mrs. Berton Andress, Minneapolis. A picnic dinner was enjoyed with the customary birthday cake gracing the center of the table. It was made by his grand-daughter, Delores Douglas.
The program was interesting and entertaining. Ed. Phelan, North Menomonie, proved an able toastmaster and took time out from his duties to give an appropriate talk and readings. Charles Govin, Menomonie, was on hand to delight the gathering with the mouth organ. Mr. Eighmy’s nephew, Ralph Curtis, Glidden, told about how Mr. Eighmy reared him and his brothers. Mrs. Bert Saxton gave several good readings. Community singing was also included in the program.
Mr. Eighmy was born at Chetek and lived in Fall City since his marriage. He also has three sons, Percy, Lawrence and Alvin, Menomonie. Since the death of his wife in 1941, he has been making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Vasey. Now at the age of four score and six, Mr. Eighmy is still enjoying good health.
Coming from out of town for the occasion were his sisters, Mr. Winnie Taylor, Superior; Mrs. Gladys Ellsworth, Rice Lake; and Mrs. Blanche Sly, Eau Claire; his nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Eighmy, Arlington; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Sly and son Gary; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Sly and children; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Lebakken and son, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sly and daughter; Mr. and Mrs. Richard O’Conner, Washington, D.C.4
