Herbert Scharlau
Dec. 25, 1918 - April 20, 2000

Herbert W.R. Scharlau, 81, of Chetek died April 20 at Dallas Healthcare Center at Dallas. Funeral services were Tuesday afternoon at St. Katherine Lutheran Church in rural Colfax. Beyer Settlement, with Rev. Gary Brown officiating. Private burial was Lake View Cemetery in Chetek.

Mr. Scharlau was born Dec. 25, 1918, in the Town of Elk Mound, Dunn County, to Paul and Hellena (Hagan) Scharlau. He worked on the family farm until his marriage to Alma Blake on Jan. 19, 1943 at Beyer Settlement, Mr. Scharlau then worked at the pickle factory in Colfax and lived on the Vehrs farm from 1953-1962. He built several buildings on the Kellenburg farm, owned by Sedenbery in 1963, and they farmed there until retiring and moving to Chetek in 1976. Mr. Scharlau enjoyed fishing, hunting, country music, feeding his squirrels and watching wrestling on television.

He is survived by his wife, Alma; a daughter, Sharon Raprager of Elk Mound; a son, Bill of Chetek; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.4
