East Side’s Grand Old Couple Note 70 Years of Married Life

The East Side’s grand old couple celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary with the good wishes and congratulations of the entire community.
Theordore [sic] D. Palmer and Hildegard Gustafson, were married at Worthington, Minnesota, on April 5th, 1891.
Mr. Palmer came to Minnesota from Illinois in 1887 and has lived here since, except a few months at Sheldon and Sioux City, Iowa, and about 13 years at Eau Claire and Altoona, Wis.
In 1911, he came to St. Paul and has lived on the East Side ever since. In 1939, he retired from Railroad work on the Omaha Railroad, and from 1943 to 1950 worked as Desk Clerk at the downtown YMCA.
They have 2 sons and 2 daughters, namely, LeRoy and Lester, and Mrs. Helen Beck of St. Paul and Mrs. Marie Lee of Duluth, 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Palmer, who is 92, and the oldest of 5 brothers, the youngest being 78 years of age, occupies his time writing, reading, making scrap books, and collects postcard pictures of all kinds of bridges, and has quite a collection of cover pridges [sic].
Mrs. Palmer, who is 88, spends quite a bit of time making Afghans, and has made a dozen or more in the past two years for her children and grandchildren. Both are fairly well, except for some Arthritis.
They wish to thank their many friends for remembering them on their 70th Wedding Anniversary.9
