Obituary
Miss Anna Cathryn Smith was born at St. Paul, Minn., May 20, 1867, and died at the family residence in Rice Lake June 28, 1914, from cancer of the stomach. Nov. 7, 1883, she was married to Mr. F. W. Scharlau of Stanfold. Six children blessed this union, the oldest boy passing away in Washington at the age of 23 years. Those living are Fred J., Mabel (Mrs. Secore), Dora, Minnie and Laura.
The funeral was held Wednesday morning, July 1, from St. Joseph’s church and interment made in the Catholic Cemetery, Rev. Beaudette officiating. The following relatives were present at the funeral services: Mr. and Mrs. James Whalen, St. Paul, cousins; Mrs. Early, sister; John F. Smith, brother, Cloquet, Minn.; a niece, Mrs. Helen Blakley, of Duluth; and Herman Scharlau, brother-in-law, Eau Claire.4
