Pioneer Mother Lode Matron Dies in South
HANFORD (Kings Co.), April 6 - Word was received here today of the death at Palms Station, Los Angeles County, of Mrs. Sarah Jane Frazier, 91, mother of William Harbour of this city, and a pioneer of the Mother Lode Country.
Mrs. Frazier, a native of Missouri, crossed the plains in a covered wagon in 1872 with her mother, Mrs. Lorinda Cornett, and two young brothers, William and Hiram Cornett. The family settled in Mariposa County and there she married B.F. Harbour.
In 1875, the Harbours moved to Soquel Mills, which was then in Fresno County, and in 1882 they moved to Coarsegold, where Harbour took up a homestead and engaged in farming.
Harbour died in 1884 and his widow married Nathaniel Frazier in 1895. In 1907, the family moved to Palms Station.
Surviving Mrs. Frazier are her son William Harbour, Hanford; a daughter, Melinda Scandand, who had made her home with her mother for the last fourteen years; a sister, Mrs. Louisa Ryan, Los Angeles; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

22Funeral services were held at Palms on Friday of last week for Mrs. Sarah Jane Frazier, 91-year old covered wagon emigrant who died there the previous Wednesday. She was born in Missouri and came to California when four years old. Her family lived in Mariposa County until 1875. She leaves an 83 year-old sister, Mrs. Louisa Ryan of Palms; a son, William Harbour of Hanford, and a daughter, Mrs. Melinda Scandland of Palms; nine grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
